Art Exhibit Policy

The Avon Public Library provides a display area for art in the Community Room. Priority will be given to artists residing in Avon. Artists must understand that the Community Room is used regularly for meetings and events by people of all ages, including young children.

No material may be exhibited in the Avon Public Library without being reviewed by the Library Trustees. Artwork must be suitable for public display in a public library, in a room that is open to adult and children of all ages.

If you wish to display your art:

  • Artists must contact the Library Director to plan to display. Artwork must be approved by the Board of Trustees.
  • All your art must fit into the space in the Community Room. Artists are encouraged to view the space before planning an exhibit.  There is shelf space above the magazines and along one of the walls, for the display of three-dimensional art.
  • No work may be displayed on the table or chairs.
  • It is the responsibility of the artist or group to see that all art is suitably framed for hanging. The artist or group is responsible for hanging the show and the take-down.
  • No nails, thumbtacks, stickers, tape or adhesive of any kind may be used directly on the walls. Artists causing damage from exhibiting works will reimburse the Avon Public Library for all repairs, which will be performed by a person selected by the Library Director/Board of Trustees.
  • Exhibits typically last for one month unless otherwise discussed; Set-up and take-down must occur at a time when the library is open, and Community Room is not in use. Scheduling of set-up and take-down must be arranged in advance with the Library Director
  • Artists may hold an event (artist reception) during the month they exhibit. They must schedule this with the Library Director, so as not to conflict with meetings or use of the Community Room.
  • The Trustees and staff of the Avon Public Library/Town of Avon cannot assume liability for lost, stolen or damaged art. The Community Room is a community space and is open to the public when the Library is open. Artists/groups who mount displays assume financial responsibility for any loss, damage or theft of their artwork.
