Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day 2023

Avon and Randolph residents are encouraged to take advantage of the annual household hazardous waste collection day. Although the event is usually held in October, this year it will take place on August 12, 2023 from 9:00AM to 12:00PM at the Randolph High School, 70 Memorial Parkway, Randolph, MA  02368. There is no rain date.

At no charge, residents may drop off up to 10 gallons of hazardous wastes such as oil-based paint, thinner, linseed oil, adhesives, used motor oil, antifreeze, cleaning chemicals, pool chemicals, batteries, pesticides and fertilizers.

On the day of the event, Avon and Randolph residents must have a form of identification, such as a driver’s license or a utility bill to register on site that day. You will be asked to remain in your vehicle at all times. As you approach the unloading zone, you will be instructed to open your trunk so that your registration process can be competed. A trained technician wearing a face covering and protective clothing will then unload vehicle. It is recommended that the unwanted materials are brought to the event in original containers. If there are multiple small items, (such as aerosol cans, or quart size paint cans,) then you may pack the items in a cardboard box or similar container for the technicians to take. The box will not be returned to you.

A Clean Venture Inc., (ACV) is a professional contractor who has been hired for this even to collect, manage, transport, dispose or recycle the materials that are dropped off. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, (DEP) enforces state regulations (MGL 310 CMR 30.00 Hazardous Waste) for the management of hazardous waste to protect human health and the environment.

In addition to the items mentioned above, residents can drop off tires (car tires, $8.00 each and truck tires, $12.00 each), unwanted medication and documents for on-site shredding.

Items that will not be collected include, latex paint, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, flairs, sharps, needles, thermometers, and propane tanks. Most of these items can be brought to the Avon Compost/Recycling site on Wales Avenue. Latex paint can be dried and disposed of in your municipal curbside collection program.
